Quick Facts

Jewelers Tiffany & Co., based in New York, are responsible for making the Super Bowl trophy

Some observations from Wednesday's practice:

1. Several players ditched their uniforms after the morning practice and headed straight to their cars -- without even showering -- in order to get back to Charlotte as soon as possible. Among those leading the parade out of town was defensive lineman Maake Kemoeatu.

2. Ten players will not make the trip to Philadelphia. They are receivers Steve Smith, D.J. Hackett, Ryne Robinson and Dwayne Jarrett, tight ends Dante Rosario and Gary Barnidge, defensive tackle Ian Scott, safety Chris Harris and cornerbacks Chris Gamble and Ken Lucas.

3. The Panthers went through a light walkthrough on Wednesday morning, then ran off the field. The players were headed back to Charlotte. They had to be at the stadium at 3:45 p.m. for the bus ride to the airport.

4. The Panthers are under contract only one more year to Wofford College to host training camp, but sources close to the situation said the team isn't going anywhere, which means you can expect Spartanburg to be part of Carolina's long-term summer future.

5. Overall, coach John Fox was pleased with training camp. "It was a good camp. It was short, but it was sweet. Like always there are always tougher times than others, but we worked through it. I like the script so far."

6. The starters will play into the second quarter Thursday night against the Eagles. Jake Delhomme will get most of the reps with the first team, Fox said.

Hello Mr Sorensn! I just have one comment and a question regarding the
Panthers training camp.
I am an avid panthers fan from Winston Salem. This year I was so excited
about the Panthers upcoming season that me and a friend drove the 3 hours to
Spartanburg 3 separate times to see the practices. They were very good to
see. But one thing that did disappoint me was that I was hoping to get
several of the players autographs. Of all of those trips I got a total of 12
autographs. Every practice most of the higher profile players as well as
most of the team passed the fans headed back off the field without even an
acknowledement of the fans at all. Of those that did that were high profile
were Peppers, D Williams, Otah, Gross, D Lewis just to name a few of many
that would not even look over to the fans as they yelled their names. there
were only a few that i noticed take the time at each camp to come over and
they were Smitty, Delhomme, J. Anderson, Kasay, Hoover, Gamble, and maybe 2
or 3 more. It kind of shocked me that some of the players just ignored the
fans that were screaming their names as though they were not even there. i
believe that with us buying tickets to the games and driving hours to see
the practice, they should atleast acknowledge the fans. It almost makes me
feel like they dont really care about the fans, just getting that check. I
am gonna still be a huge panthers fan, but a lot of those players lost a lot
of my respect as person for being so selfish to not even acknowledge the
fans. Being a big UNc fan, i love Peppers, but for 3 straight practices he
walked past the fans not even looking over, not even raising his hand saying
hello and not signing one autograph, he as well as several players that did
the same lost a lot of respect. i would think they that organization would
urge them to treat the fans with respect since we are the ones that pay our
cash so they can play. Hopefully Richardson or Fox will see this and
soemthing would be done. i wont go to another practice for that reason tho.
of course i love to see them practice, but i do as i am sure a lot of fans
go for that up close and personal meeting of the players and maybe get an
autograph. To me its not worth a 3 hour drive to get snubbed by most of
the players.

Jas. I'm not a player but if every panther gave an autograph to every fan that called their name they wouldn't do anything else. Maybe they were so tired that they couldn't handle talking to the fans, or maybe they were having a rough time. You have no idea why they acted that way. Maybe they are all deaf, who knows but lets not brand them as jerks or arogant because they didn't give you an autograph. Everyone has been ignored by an athlete at one time or another.

Jas.....If you are old enough to drive three hours to see the team the practice you should be old enough to know why a player doesn't come to your beck and call and give you an autograph. It's funny to see you calling players selfish when in reality you are the selfish one complaining because you didn't get what YOU wanted. Pot meet kettle.
